Refugee Resettlement Program

Refugees are forced to flee from their country of origin due to fear for their lives and liberty. No one becomes a refugee by choice, and all kinds of people are refugees. The United Nations defines a refugee as a person who “owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country.” This definition was established in the 1951 Geneva Convention relating to the status of Refugees. According to UNHCR,  Today, there are 100 Million displaced people worldwide, due to war, persecution, and natural disasters.  

Canada is one of the few countries in the world that offer annual resettlement to thousands of government and privately sponsored refugees. Private sponsorship does not rely on public resources but instead taps into the energy and funds of faith communities, ethnic groups, families, and other benevolent associations. Private sponsors may name the refugee they wish to offer the opportunity to be interviewed by Canadian Immigration for resettlement and offer the refugee personalized local support. LInC Ministries is a part of the private sponsorship stream and works to focus on persecuted Christian believers and vulnerable people from the Middle East & North Africa.

From 2016 to 2022, LInC Ministries sponsored 129 refugees, and they were successfully resettled in Canada. We have 28 refugees in transit, which means their sponsorship application is processing. Our sponsorship efforts continue throughout the year when funds and human resources are available.

Testimonies

A family consisting of father, mother and two teenage daughters were our most recent refugee arrivals on December 2022. They arrived after many years of waiting for a new beginning. Their story starts in Iraq, where the mother is a dentist, and the father is an Information Technology (IT) expert. They lived in the northern region of Iraq, and the father worked for a large technology company. When he saw that the company started to get involved in corrupt activities, he resigned and searched for a new job. So, he gave his resignation letter, which his manager rejected, as he was told that he knew too much and they could not let him go.

He insisted on resigning, and the company couldn’t change his mind. So, a few days later, he was kidnapped in the Middle of the market, where his wife and daughters were with him in the car. He was kidnapped, tortured and interrogated for many days. His wife and daughters thought he was murdered, but fortunately, he was released after a while.

The kidnappers told him he would be under constant surveillance until he returned to work. At that point, he was forced to flee his home and take his wife and two daughters to find refuge in another Middle Eastern country, where he stayed from May 2019 until December 2022. Through your help and God’s grace, we were able to sponsor the family to Canada. The family is settling well, attending one of our prayer meetings and learning to call Canada home. We are thrilled to be a part of saving this family’s life and seeing them have a safe and secure life in Canada. Thank you for partnering with us on this journey.

Story of a family who arrived in Canada in September of 2022, from the Middle East. The family consists of a father, a mother and a 6-year-old son. We came across this family when we learned that they were persecuted in the Middle East as the mother came from a different religious background and became a follower of Jesus. The father was born into a Christian family and came to experience a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. After many years of processing the sponsorship application, they finally arrived in Canada. Thanks to your support, the family can now worship and serve Jesus Christ and work to build a new life in Canada.
